Course Quizzes (10%)

  • 1 practice quiz and 9 assessed quizzes
  • best 7 of the 9 assessed quizzes will count towards the final grade
  • quizzes each have approximately 10 questions
  • for each quiz, one attempt which must be completed within 60 min

Group Project (30%)

  • check a dataset for consistency

  • explore hypotheses about how variables are related

    • conduct and interpret appropriate statistical tests
  • produce suitable graphics

  • present workings and conclusions in a report

released Thursday 10th October 2024

due 12 noon Thursday 31st October 2024

each lab group should produce one report (with code)

Group Project (30%)

  • Form your groups (max 5 people) in labs during weeks 1 and 2.
    • Sit together and work on the exercises.
  • Groups will be formally ‘set’ in Week 3 labs, after which you cannot change who you complete the group project with.
    • if you are not present in Week 3 labs you will be randomly allocated to a group.
  • The lab sessions are for completing the exercises, not the group report. Please arrange with your group when and how you plan to complete the project.

Exam (60%)

  • 15 MCQs (30%) and 8 Short-Answer Qs (70%)

  • Later on in the course (week 9/10/11ish):

    • exam prep session (online and recorded)
    • example questions

Tips for Survival

  • active engagement!

  • use the piazza forums and other forms of support

  • keep on top of the coursework

  • remember that some things will feel difficult at first

    • what’s hard for you may be easy for others
    • what’s easy for you may be hard for others
  • most importantly, don’t give up
